Juniper Consultancy Services' report on MBT, commissioned by the SITA Environmental Trust, is available to download from this website.

The Report was launched at a major seminar on 22 March 2005, in London and was covered by a number of leading waste and environmental journals. The timing of the publication of the report was particularly appropriate - there is widespread interest in MBT throughout the world and numerous processes utilising widely varying concepts are being promoted - yet until the Juniper report there has been no standard reference publication that critically appraises these systems in the context of the needs of municipal authorities. The report may also be downloaded from the websites of the SITA Environmental Trust and ASSURRE.

The report is over 650 pages in length and has been broken down into separate parts as detailed below:

The Summary Report Contains key findings about the role that MBT can play, assesses recycling and diversion performance, and reports on the issues and challenges that will affect its wider adoption.
Annexe A: Process Fundamentals Details the types of MBT system, related technologies and their key differences.
Annexe B: Issues arising out of the Regulatory and Policy Framework Identifies and discusses the key EU and UK policy initiatives and regulations and assesses their impact on the uptake of MBT.
Annexe C: Marketability of Outputs Examines market constraints and considers supply and demand issues related to fuel and soil improver applications
Annexe D: Process Reviews Provides independent reviews of 27 key commercial MBT processes and comparative analysis of these.
Executive Summary Summarises the key conclusions
