SEE SAMPLE PAGE

In this latest addition to our range of JuniperRatings we assess the relative strengths of processes which are being promoted for the Composting (Aerobic Digestion) of a wide range of relatively high-solids organic waste streams, including green waste, source-segregated household waste, commercial and industrial wastes and the organic fraction of residual MSW, as found in MBT and mixed composting facilities.

In this ratings summary we have focussed on in-vessel composting systems, and have excluded the more ‘basic’ open-air systems such as windrows, (aerated) static piles and covered piles / rows.
We have included composting tunnels, rotating or agitated vessels and in-hall systems. We have concentrated on facilities deserving of the description of ‘process’ for which a commercial level of control is required, for example: leachate management, odour abatement, air quality, removal of ‘contraries’, high output quality and good pasteurisation requirements (eg the EU Animal by-product regulations). The specific type of feedstock against which a supplier is rated is also indicated.

We have excluded bespoke / unique processes that have not been designed to be replicated elsewhere. We have also excluded a range of consultancies which deliver and manage composting projects.

We have sought to give ratings for those processes that are amongst the most visible in the marketplace at the time of publishing.
